Believable animation & finding your career path – Interview with Samy Fecih – UPDATE: Now also as mp3
In this interview lead animator Samy Fecih opens a treasure chest of valuable animation tipps and tricks. We talk about good and bad acting, working with reference, the challenges of realistic vs. cartoony styles and more… It’s an hour packed with animation know-how wrapped up with some advice for your demoreel and career path.
UPDATE: You don’t need no picture with your interviews? Click here for an audio only version to listen to. There are some tiny moments though where Samy shows stuff to the camera, but everything should still be understandable.
BRILLIANT! This is a goldmine of info. Thank you for this interview!
Wow this was epic. The only one thing is it was hard to watch in one shot. Maybe you could make a podcast version or a transcript? An hour is a long time to be on YouTUBE but I would read the whole interview on the bus in the morning or listen to it while I was jogging if I could. 😀
In case you haven’t watched it by now: I posted the link to an mp3 in the article, ready to be downloaded and listened to on the bus or during sport… 😀
Inspiring! Thanks!
I agree with Diana above, this is really great information but it’s information overload. What if you split it into three parts and made each one under 20 minutes? The average human can only concentrate on a lecture for 20-25 minutes studies have shown.
Thanks for your comment! I am still unsure about how to handle long interviews. They are only scheduled to be 15 minutes long so whenever they get longer, it was something that just happened. And Samy was super generous with his time and his knowledge.
I think videos that are just ripped into parts because of their length don’t do so well on YouTube (which sometimes randomly recommends parts out of order). It would maybe work if it has a short welcoming back intro at the beginning of each part or a strong separation by topic. Well, next time an interview is about to get that long, I will try to do hosting for several parts…
I appreciate your input!
AMAAAAAAAAZZZZZZING! This is got to be your best interview yet and I’m glad you are on screen for it too. ;D
It would be good to have closed captioning for this because sometimes its hard to understand the words in spots. That is probably a lot of work though. Still amazing.
Super video and amazingly informative. I agree with the other people that it would be better in a few parts instead of one long one but I watched it in pieces and took notes. I can’t wait to see what your next video will be.
Very enlightening, thanks!
This video truly made my day. You consider simply how so much
time this information saves! Thank you!
I finally found some time to watch this interview. Really great one, covers a lot of topics.
”Don’t try to move the characters, make them live. They have to be characters, not puppets anymore”
Thanks for recording this great interview. 🙂
Is there a word-only version of this? I can’t watch videos at work.
